Top 10 Tuesday — Out of My Comfort Zone

11 Nov

Happy Tuesday! I am an eclectic reader — the only thing I don’t read are spicy books. IYKYK. 😉 It’s easy to read books that fit my parameters when I stick mostly to Christian fiction. So this week’s topic — books out of my comfort zone — was a bit daunting. I do know that I rarely read YA fiction simply because I’m not really the target audience, not because of topic or genre, so I am going to feature a few books that I have read and enjoyed (denoted with an asterisk) and a few that look very interesting. I hope you find one to love!

Top 10 Tuesday — Fall TBR

24 Sep

Is it really Fall already? Unfortunately, it is still hot, hot, hot where I live. I hear cooler temperatures are coming, along with a developing hurricane! That I can do without. We will hope for a needed rain event and the ushering in of Fall weather. As to my Fall TBR List, well, as always, it is excessive. It includes books I had high hopes of reading in the summer, review books, and book club books. I need to knuckle down and get some reading done! Let me know what you think of my list.

First Line Friday — Water’s Break

5 Apr

Happy Friday! Today I am sharing the fantasy novel by Sophia L. Hansen, Water’s Break. Isn’t the cover stunning?! I will be sharing my thoughts on the book in the coming weeks. Find out all about Sophia and her book below.

In the meantime, here’s the first line:

Nica shrank into the kelp forest, thankful for the camouflage its dappled greens provided.

What if fear itself is the deadliest undercurrent of all?

Nica would do anything to avoid the hassles of her sister’s bonding ceremony—the wrap fittings, hairstyles, and braided fire coral—but she never imagined that the waters covering her planet would be broken. As the heavens rained fire and stone, mountains erupted from the sea and dry ground was birthed on the Deep, dividing the water—and the Olomi people—for the first time in their history.

In the wake of her world’s violent re-formation, Nica’s family is shattered. When the rookie Guardian leaves the safety of the Deep to find her sister, she is abducted by strange landwalkers who possess strength and technology beyond her imagination. Nica realizes that the disaster from above was by their design—a calculated plan to terraform the water planet and conquer her people. All Nica wants to do is find her sister and swim home to safety, but with the landwalkers closing in, escape may not be possible. And if Nica can’t save herself, how can she hope to save her sister—or her people?

Sophia Hansen writes organically, using no hormones, antibiotics, or pesticides on her words unless absolutely convenient. Having lived on a tiny island in Alaska and the bustling cities of New York and Boston, Sophia loves being settled in the southeast where she writes and edits in other worlds. Sophia loves plenty of coffee, crispy bacon, and—after 30+ years of marriage, seven children, and numerous pets—that she can still fit into her high school earrings.

Top 10 Tuesday — Spring TBR

19 Mar

Spring has definitely sprung in my corner of the sunny South. Looking out the window of our office I can see redbuds, cherry trees, wisteria, and azaleas blooming. If a freak freeze doesn’t sneak in, we are in for a beautiful Easter! I also have some great looking books on my Spring TBR. I have a variety of genres to keep me from falling into any kind of reading rut. And really with this lineup, I am not worried!
