Title: Perfectly Arranged
Series: The Hopeful Hearts #1
Author: Liana George
Publisher: Scrivenings Press
Release Date: October 26, 2021
Genre: Contemporary Women’s Fiction

Professional organizer Nicki Mayfield is on her way to becoming the next Marie Kondo – if only she could find clients and make ends meet! While looking for new professional opportunities, Nicki’s also determined to sort out her personal life. Despite dealing with a mother who’s a prime candidate for Hoarders and battling her own doubts about marriage and parenting, Nicki is certain she can transform the chaos around her into order.

When all hope seems lost, the eccentric socialite Katherine O’Connor enters Nicki’s world. Boosted by Ms. O’Connor’s desperate need for organizing help, Nicki pushes out of her comfort zone — in work, love, and life. Together they discover an unknown Chinese address on a business card. Determined to uncover the identity of the address and how it connected with the father her client hardly knew, Ms. O’Connor and Nicki embark on an adventure that takes them across the world. There, both women must break down the walls surrounding their hearts to help those who can’t help themselves. In doing so, Nicki and Ms. O’Connor learn that things and people aren’t always what they seem, that hidden treasures lead to new beginnings, and that sometimes — surprisingly — God has things perfectly arranged.

EXCERPT

I’m hanging up my label maker.

While I’d been certain I would be the next Marie Kondo, organizing superstar, the lack of clients and shortage of funds in my bank account tells a different story. I grab another moving box and glide the packing tape across the bottom to secure it. The screech of the gun as it connects the two flaps resounds as the truth flashes in front of me.

After three years of blood, sweat, and tears, I’ve failed at the one thing I’d believed I was meant to do.

When I open a side desk drawer that holds a rainbow assortment of alphabetically arranged files, my heart flutters at the sight of everything in perfect order – just the kind of thing that would make my mother anxious.

I wince. Mom. Without a job, I have no other choice but to move back home with her.

As if on cue, her familiar blue Honda pulls up outside my window.

Seriously, what else could go wrong today?

Plowing my way through the heap of boxes, I grab my coat and purse from the chair and dash toward the door. Before I can step outside and hide my career woes, my mother walks in.

“Nicki, I …” Mom closes the door and studies the room. “What’s going on in here?”

I survey the boxes scattered around the tiny cubicle. “Packing?”

“I see that, but why?”

“I’m closing up shop.” I dig my shoe into the stained beige carpet. “Bridgeport’s Organizing Business of the Year is no longer.”

Happy Release Day! — Out of The Water

19 Oct

Wishing Ann Marie Stewart a very happy release day for Out of The Water. This multi-generational novel explores the complexities of adoption from the viewpoints of adoptive parents, biological parents, and adoptees. The unique situations gave this reader a lot to consider. Find out all the details below.

Irish immigrant Siobhan Kildea’s impetuous flight from a Boston lover in 1919 leads her to a new family in an unfamiliar Montana prison town. After a horrific tragedy impacts her children, her land, and her livelihood, Siobhan makes a heart wrenching decision – with consequences that ripple for decades to come.

Mysteriously linked to Siobhan is Genevieve Marchard, a battlefront nurse in France who returns stateside to find the absence of a certain soldier is her greatest loss; Anna Hanson, a music teacher who tucks herself away in a small Washington town, assuming her secrets are safe; and Erin Ellis, who thinks she and her husband won the lottery when they adopted their daughter, Claire.

These interconnected stories, spanning three continents and five generations, begin to unravel in 1981 when Claire Ellis sets out to find her biological mother.

With puzzling suspense, unforgettable characters and uncanny insight, Out of the Water is an intoxicating novel of motherhood, secrets, and the profound ramifications our decisions have. Readers will be left wondering: ultimately, is it always better to know the truth?

Ann Marie Stewart grew up in Seattle, Washington and is a die-hard UW Husky (and Wolverine) after earning a Masters in Film/Television from University of Michigan. She originated AMG’s Preparing My Heart series, and writes the column “Ann’s Lovin’ Ewe” for The Country Register. With two recent UVA grads, she’s now a huge HOO basketball fan. When not writing, Ann teaches voice or takes care of the many sheep of Skyemoor Farm.

Blood from a StoneTitle: Blood From a Stone
Series: The True Lies of Rembrandt Stone #5

He fled the future with blood on his hands. Now, he’ll do anything to stop a killer.

The stakes have never been higher in the heart-wrenching, edge-of-your-seat fifth story of the True Lies of Rembrandt Stone.

EXCERPT

This is not my world.

Not my life.

Not my time.

Sure, it resembles a life I knew—from the snow piled up along the blackened, salted streets, the icy wind buffeting the frosty diner window, to the sound of Celine Dion singing how her heart will go on, and even the smell of oil in the fryers of the late-night diner. It could be any one of the diners I used to frequent in downtown Minneapolis after a long day of investigations.

But this is not my life.

My life is twenty years in the future, and right now, if fate were kind, or even fair, I would be reading Llama, Llama, Red Pajama to my seven-year-old blonde cherub as she clutches a ratty one-eyed bear named Gomer and tells me to slow down, to read it again.

My gorgeous wife, Eve, would be standing in the doorway of our partially remodeled craftsman located in a suburb of Uptown. Or maybe she’d be across the hall in our king bed, bundled up in her wool socks and thick bathrobe, her reading glasses down on her nose, deep in the latest issue of the Journal for Forensic Scientists.

Downstairs, the light in my den would be on, the cursor at my computer blinking, waiting for me to continue my half-finished novel.

And I would be happy. Until now, I wouldn’t realize how happy, but as I sit here, I know.

I had a happy ending.

This is not it. But this time around, if I’m smart, I’ll win.

I must win.

To a time traveler, until you’ve been someplace for a long time, rewriting the past feels like a game. We jump into the moment, armed with knowledge we shouldn’t possess, the older and wiser versions of ourselves, with the goal of rewriting our lives, this time for the better.

For us, the game isn’t win or lose, but rather, scored on the what-ifs that we grab, the shouldas we accomplish. And, all the while, in the back of our minds, if we make a wrong move, we’re buoyed by the surety it can be reset.

It’s taken me four rounds, but this time I know.

This is not a game.

Time is playing for keeps and there’s no reset if I fail.

But don’t worry—this time, I will not be bested.

I swear it on my life.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Circumvent

Title: Circumvent
Author: S. K. Derban
Publisher: TouchPoint Press
Release Date: November 9, 2017
Genre: Clean Read Mystery

When perfection turns to panic an isolated couple must learn:

“For we walk by faith, not by sight…”

Imagine living in a quaint, beach-front cottage on the Hawaiian island of Maui. You have an amazing job, combined with the pleasure of working from home. Lunch breaks become a daily picnic on the sand. Dessert is always included because of your marriage to a famous pastry chef. Life could not be any better. Or so it seems…

French-born, Nikki Sabine Moueix travels to Hawaii for a special work assignment, but the job of writing an article about a famous Swiss pastry chef generates more than a magazine piece. They fall in love, get married, and Nikki Moueix becomes Mrs. Ruggiero Delémont.

When another assignment calls for Nikki to spend three weeks in France, Ruggiero’s schedule prevents him from joining her. She travels alone, advancing straight into danger. After a threatening confrontation, Nikki wakes up in a French hospital with no knowledge of her past. After she fails to check in, Ruggiero panics and pushes for an immediate investigation. But as he closes in, Nikki’s new found friend moves her to another city. It becomes a game of hide and seek with Nikki as the prize.

CIRCUMVENT allows readers to form a bond with Nikki as they yearn for her to remember. They will cheer for Ruggiero and his relentless determination to locate his beloved wife. This is a story about two people who never lose their faith in God, and find amazing friends to help them along the way.

EXCERPT

Nikki never expected her route to be void of people, and yet, surprisingly her neck hairs bristled when she heard footsteps from behind. While keeping her pace constant, she glanced over her shoulder and spotted a man who looked vaguely family. I know him from somewhere. Still not certain, and feeling a strange vulnerability, she increased her stride. From the sound of his footsteps Nikki could tell the man had also sped, and was gaining on her. Fear galvanized her when she suddenly heard him break into a run.

Nikki gathered her inner strength, then stopped, and turned to confront the man. She focused on his features and finally remembered. “It’s you! You’re from Maui,” she accused. “You drove the airport shuttle. What are you doing here in France, and why are you following me?”

Shadows at Nightfall JustRead Blog Tour
Welcome to the Blog Tour & Giveaway for Quest of Fire: Shadows at Nightfall by Brett Armstrong, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOKS

Shadows at NightfallTitle: Shadows at Nightfall
Series: Quest of Fire #3
Author: Brett Armstrong
Publisher: Scrivenings Press
Release Date: September 2021
Genre: Christian Epic Fantasy

The shadows of Jason’s past have caught him. Having stepped into the Quest of Fire, Jason is pursued by a league of assassins formed of pure darkness. To his horror he discovers these creatures also were contracted to eliminate Anargen and his friends as they sought to understand the Tower of Light’s oracle. To unravel the mystery of who wants him dead and how he fits into the ages old quest, Jason must travel the lengths of the Lowlands. In the Ziljafu deserts a secret awaits him that will shake him to his core. He’ll have to move fast and cling fiercely to hope, as Anargen’s story twists down a bleak path to almost certain failure.

The creatures of darkness in the Lowlands have long waited for men to spurn the High King’s laws. With few concerned for the light and everything falling apart around them, Jason and Anargen will face the shadows of night’s falling as their world hangs in the balance.

EXCERPT

There was a faint crunching sound from the corridor at Jason’s back.

It could just be bits of rubble continuing to collapse. Try as he might, he couldn’t accept that explanation and dashed over to the darkest corner of the room. There he collapsed beside the feet of the statue. He needed to catch his breath and think and, most of all, stay out of sight.

The crunching sound grew louder and was accompanied by the ring of boots against the stone floor. A moment later, a figure entered the room.

A man of average height and build was about all Jason could make out from his position. He watched, holding his breath as the man stalked over to the back of the chamber and looked around.

In a voice thickly laced with the Zilnian accent, he called out, “I know you are here, Landsby. You may not realize it, but this is the throne room of Tislatna’s final Primus, Zilos.”

His chuckle was quiet but sinister. “Many find themselves drawn to this audience chamber. His mummified remains exude a potent aura. A dark one. Primus Zilos was the first to discover the power of shadows and found the Sombra.”

The man drifted back into an area almost too dark for Jason to see. He flipped up a hood and ceased to be altogether. His voice, now incorporeal but all the more menacing, echoed in the chamber. “You are foolish to believe the dark will conceal you.”

Jason’s heart hammered in his chest. It was the only sound he could hear. He balled up as tight as he could as he perceived the room growing progressively colder.

Think, Jason, think. You’ve got to hold it together and find a way out.

There was a sudden swirl like mist or sand in front of Jason. A hand materialized and jerked him upwards to stare into the Sombra’s grey face with its milky eyes.

“We are the dark.”

Blog Tour + Giveaway! — Rose Among Thornes

30 Aug

Rose Among Thornes JustRead Blog Tour
Welcome to the Blog Tour for Rose Among
Thornes
by Terrie Todd, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE
BOOK

Rose
Among ThornesTitle: Rose Among Thornes
Author: Terrie Todd
Publisher: Iron Stream Media (Heritage Beacon)
Release Date: August 31, 2021
Genre: Christian Historical Fiction

Forgiveness is the deadliest force on earth.

War might be raging overseas, but Rose Onishi is on track to fulfill her lifelong goal of becoming a concert pianist. When forced by her government to leave her beloved home in Vancouver and move to the Canadian prairie to work on the Thornes’ sugar beet farm, her dream fades to match the black dirt staining her callused hands. Though the Thorne family is kind, life is unbearably lonely. In hopes that it might win her the chance to play their piano, Rose agrees to write letters to their soldier son.

When Rusty Thorne joins the Canadian Army, he never imagines becoming a Japanese prisoner of war. Inside the camp, the faith his parents instilled is tested like never before. Though he begs God to help him not hate his brutal captors, Rusty can no longer even hear the Japanese language without revulsion. Only his rare letters from home sustain him — especially the brilliant notes from his mother’s charming helper, which the girl signs simply as “Rose.”

Will Rusty survive the war only to encounter the Japanese on his own doorstep? Can Rose overcome betrayal and open her heart? Or will the truth destroy the fragile bond their letters created?

EXCERPT

Rusty stopped reading when Bert nudged him. His friend put a finger to his lips and nodded his chin toward something off to the side. A sparrow had landed a few feet away. The men were all gawking at the little bird, though it wasn’t an unusual sight. Sparrows were everywhere and viewed by the locals as pesky as rats or mosquitoes. Some of the men had unsuccessfully tried catching them for food.

But this one was different. Fearlessly, it hopped forward between two of the men as though oblivious to the humans and made its way to the fresh mound of earth covering Eli’s body. There it stayed while the men stared. No one moved.

In a voice just above a whisper, Bert repeated the last words Rusty had read from his Bible. “Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

Still, the bird stayed. And the men stared. What each one was thinking, Rusty could only guess. He only knew what was going on in his own heart. If God could send a bird at that exact moment, there had to be something more going on than what could be seen. He was not abandoned. He would choose to believe it, even if it killed him.
