Top 10 Tuesday — The Long of It

9 Oct

I used to be a big fan of chunksters — big, fat books that would take me a very long time to read. Back in my school years I was especially fond of James Michener books for that very reason. It was wonderful to immerse myself in the sagas that took me to another time and place. Alas, today I rarely indulge in books over 400 pages, let alone those that approach the 1000 page mark. Today on Top 10 Tuesday, bloggers are sharing the longest books they have read (be sure to head over there to see what is on their lists). While I rarely kept a page count back in the day, my list includes books I enjoyed and that are long enough to take you away for a good long time. There are a couple you may be unwilling to try šŸ˜‰ , but I bet you’ll find at least one to intrigue you.

Ā Big Fat Books I Loved

Bleak House by Charles DickensĀ

Byzantium by Stephen Lawhead

Centennial by James Michener

Hawaii by James Michener

Moby-Dick by Herman MelvilleĀ

The Robe by Lloyd C. Douglas

Ruska by Edward Rutherford

Sarum by Edward Rutherfurd

How about you, do you like big books? Don’t lie!

I have not really tackled any huge books. They intimidate me. I have so many to read that I like them around 350-400 pages sometimes a bit under 300. I can think of a trilogy that was super good. You have to read them in order. They came out a year apart and I impatiently waited. It is the Jessica Dotta series: Price of Privilege. Wonderful saga. I plan on reading it again, one after the other.
I do remember reading Dostoevsky and Solzhenitsyn and of course Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. I think I did read Hawaii once.

I loved Dotta’s trilogy. I wish she would publish another book. I’m like you. Now I usually read books with less than 400 pages

I haven’t met a lot of other people who’ve read Hawaii, but I sure thought it was a good story.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

I have listened to longer book like ones by Ken Follett, but I read books that are generally 400 pages or less.

My son listened to War And Peace on audiobook. It took him all summer to finish.
