“If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title?
Books in a series are a challenge for me. I generally shy away from a series, because I can’t always get to all the books. If the series is a continuing saga — you have to read them in order and there are loose threads at the end of each book, I am less likely to pick it up. If the books are stand-alones, but share the same characters or setting, I will probably read a it. Generally I start with the first book, unless it is a stand-alone.
I also lead a book club that has been meeting for 8 years now. We have a love-hate relationship with series. We try not to read them, because, obviously, not everyone will like every book. We have read a few, but generally steer clear of them.
