Happy Release Day — The Convict’s Courtship

3 Mar

Happy release day to KyLee Woodley! Her latest historical romance novel with a western setting, The Convict’s Courtship, is now available!

Aspiring journalist. Reformed convict. A winter they’ll never forget.

The Outlaw Hearts series is coming to an end! Don’t miss the conclusion to Clara and Beau’s journey.

A remote mining town, an aspiring journalist, and the reformed convict who saves her life.

When Clara Alexander returned from finishing school to Virginia City she had two goals: to become a reporter and make peace with the father who betrayed her mother. But even in the West, there is no room for her in the newsroom or in the family her father made when he married his mistress. Clara is forced to take desperate measures to prove her worth to an editor—including a reckless venture into a dangerous mine shaft.

Reformed convict Beau Vulpe lives a quiet life of obscurity in a remote mining town in Nevada. When he rescues a beautiful woman from a sweltering mine shaft, he’s welcomed into her home as a hero, only to discover that they are the same family he deeply wronged the summer before. Now, with winter’s grip choking the mountain town and rumors of mines going bust, he is forced to stay, praying Clara won’t discover the truth before the spring thaw.

KyLee Woodley is a cheery romantic who loves to write about bygone days and heartwarming romance with a pinch of adventure. She teaches preschool at a lab school in Texas, where she lives with her husband and their three teenage children. On weekends, KyLee cohosts and produces the Historical Bookworm Show, a steadily growing author interview podcast for history lovers and readers of historical fiction.

In her spare time, she cares for a rescue dog named Lucky, a feisty feline named Hazel, and two adorable Boston Terrier puppies. She listens to contemporary Christian, country, and early‑2000s rock, visits bookstores and coffee shops with her teens, and watches adventure movies with her husband, who might resemble Superman.

Top 10 Tuesday — Typography!

3 Feb

Happy Tuesday! Today TTT is featuring book covers with interesting typography. What is typography, you may ask? From Google AI —

Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and visually appealing.

There were a lot of different directions to go with this topic, but I finally narrowed it down to titles with two or more fonts. While some are more subtle than others, the visual interest really grabbed my eye. What do you think?

Top 10 Tuesday — Occupations

2 Sep

Happy Tuesday! Today’s TTT topic is a fun one — occupations in the title of books. There are a lot of directions you can go on this. I considered going a bad guy route — pirate, thief, etc. in the title — but decided to be straightforward with real honest-to-goodness, if a bit old fashioned, occupations. 😉 I included occupations that any one can reasonably achieve — no kings or queens. It was a bit challenging coming up with 10; I went pretty far back in the archives to find them. While the genres vary, most are historical fiction. I hope you find a book to love!

My Impressions:

KyLee Woodley transports her readers to the old West in her novel The Bounty Hunter’s Surrender. With a strong faith message with themes of forgiveness, reconciliation, and finding purpose, this historical romance has everything to keep you engaged from the beginning. Aubrey Willot is in need of a protector and finds one in Nathan Reed. As Aubrey struggles with trust and Nathan struggles with forgiving himself for choices made in the past, they are drawn to each other immediately. I liked these two main characters. They are flawed and struggle with overcoming past mistakes and failures, but they are determined to do what is right and just. I loved how they complimented each other in many ways. The setting is old California, specifically San Francisco. While the town prospers and leads the way, there are still swindlers and bank robbers and kidnappers galore — plenty of excitement! And you are going to love the twists and turns of this story as the two fight for freedom and independence. The faith message is very strong, and Aubrey and Nathan build and grow on their early foundations. While The Bounty Hunter’s Surrender can be read as a standalone novel, you may want to read book one in the Outlaw Hearts series, The Bandit’s Redemption. Characters from that book make an appearance in this one.

Recommended.

Audience: Adults.
