Excerpt
From Chapter 15, Scene 2:
When their mirth finally subsided, she gazed at the sky and sighed. “Imagine flying like a bird—up above, all the difficulties of the earth below. It’s so perfect up there, like something in a dream.”
He turned his head and took in her profile. “Do you wish you could fly away? Is that what you dream of?” He wouldn’t blame her if she did.
“No,” she said quietly. “My desires are more grounded.”
“I’d like to hear them.” It was the truth. Getting to know her had become all important.
“It’s silly, really, but I’d love to buy and sell rare books like we did when my parents were alive. I never got to go on any of their trips, but my mother used to tell me how exhilarating the hunt for a perfect book could be.” Her voice trailed off, and she sighed.
Her wish seemed so simple, one that wouldn’t give someone of his means a second thought about going after. Yet, the wistfulness in her voice told him she thought her dream was as unattainable as being able to soar like a bird.
The sudden urge to help her make it a reality stole his breath.

About The Author
Kimberly Keagan discovered her love for romance novels at thirteen, often choosing a book over chores. She believes there’s nothing like being transported to another time and place to find a happily ever after.
Kimberly is blessed to have her own handsome hero husband and two wonderful children. After earning a degree in accounting, she enjoyed a career in investor relations, writing financial reports and press releases—terrific jobs, though not very romantic.
Now, she’s pursuing her dream of writing historical romance. Her short stories have been published in Spark Flash Fiction and Short Fiction Break. Kimberly’s debut novel will release in 2025.
When not reading or writing, Kimberly enjoys baking, gardening, watching sports, and researching her family tree.
