He opened three bins and pulled out a little of this and a smidge of that. As the papers and scissors and scraps of felt passed from his hands to the broad table, old memories of crafting alongside his wife filtered into his mind. It wasn’t his hobby; it was hers—always hers. But he’d let her teach it to him so he could spend more time with her.
More time.
His heart wrenched. That was something slipping through his fingers much too swiftly.
As quickly as possible, but still with the tender care and patience she’d coached into him, he shaped pink and purple and red slips of paper into hearts of varying sizes. Forming them into a makeshift flower that was more wilty than perky brought tears to his eyes. He scrubbed the back of his wrist beneath his nose so it wouldn’t drip on his work.
How could he be in this room… doing this… without her?
