31 Aug

61nJKdbNMUL._SY497_BO1,204,203,200_Moo moo, cows!

Baa baa, sheep!

When the sun sinks low down on the farm, the animals are all tuckered out from the day’s adventures. Join these adorable farm animals in pajamas as they say night night to the farm, to their mommies and daddies, and to God.

Your little ones will sleep until the rooster crows knowing that the God who made them loves them too.

Night night, farm!

71ucuLQl-hL._UX250_Amy Parker’s children’s books have sold more than 800,000 copies including two Christian Retailing’s Best award-winning books and the bestselling A Night Night Prayer. She lives outside Nashville with her husband and two children.

Virginia Allyn lives above a chocolate shop in a beautiful New Hampshire village. She enjoys collecting children’s books, hiking, and eating all her vegetables (except peas).

My Impressions:

Your child’s bedtime just got more fun with Night Night, Farm by Amy Parker and illustrated by Virginia Allyn. With adorable and colorful illustrations — make sure to check out the mice in night shirts and caps! — rhyming verse and farm animals getting ready for bed, this book will appeal to the preschool and early elementary set. Each animal uses his own language to say good night allowing for teachable moments. As I said, the mice are adorable and up to mischief, but eventually the farm settles down for the evening. And at the end your child is reminded of just Who made the animals and him as well! This book is also good for beginning readers to stretch their reading skills.

Another fabulous children’s book from the talented Amy Parker, Night Night, Farm is a recommended read for any family.

Recommended.

Audience: 4-8.

Children’s Corner: How Big Is Love?

17 Aug

61Z0qZm7EvL._SY496_BO1,204,203,200_“Mama, just how does love get so big?”

Little Hedgehog is determined to understand just how love works. His curious questions will warm your heart, and his sweet story will remind you that love grows every time you give it away.

Based on the important message of 1 Corinthians 13:13, the Faith, Hope, Love series will plant important seeds in children’s hearts.

71ucuLQl-hL._UX250_Amy Parker has written more than thirty books for children, teens, and adults, including the best-selling A Night Night Prayer, Thank You, God, for Mommy, and Thank You, God, for Daddy. She has also collaborated with authors ranging from New York Times bestsellers to her very own son. Two of these collaborations — Firebird and Courageous Teens — are recipients of Christian Retailing’s Best Awards. But Amy’s greatest reward is being a wife to Daniel and a mom to their amazing sons, Michael and Ethan.

My Impressions:

Little Hedgehog wants to know just how big love is, and he and his mother explore that concept throughout the day. Stronger than daddy, bigger than a mountain, and brighter than the sun — children and their parents will have fun as they learn about God’s love in Amy Parker’s children’s book, How Big Is Love? Cute illustrations accompany easily shared and understood examples of the scope of love. This book is based on 1 Corinthians 13 and can be used simply as a good bedtime story or a springboard for more discussion about God’s nature. The padded board book will withstand the many readings it will surely demand! This book is a perfect for your kids or grandkids! (This book is also part of series that includes How High Is Hope? and How Far Is Faith?)

Recommended.

Audience: children ages 2-6.

Children’s Corner: The Plans I Have for You

9 Sep

51ciYzw6JLL._SY416_BO1,204,203,200_The Plans I Have for You combines playful rhyming text written by bestselling children’s book author Amy Parker with whimsical illustrations by award-winning artist Vanessa Brantley-Newton to create a book that inspires readers of all ages to dream about their future. God has great plans for each and every one of us, and this book encourages children to think about the talents that make them special and will help them imagine how God may use our unique traits to make the world a better place.

Vanessa-Brantley-Newton-167x300Vanessa Brantley Newton is an artist swathed in retro chic while keeping up with all the trappings of modernity. She loves all things vintage – especially books and clothes from the 40s through the 60’s – and keeps an active Pinterest account to show off her finds. Vanessa’s greatest strength as an artist is her versatility: she feels equally at home designing for the juvenile, adult, and inspirational markets. She loves to add unique touches to her work, including mixed media accents, collage, and hand lettering. Vanessa approaches each project with the goal of uplifting and inspiring happiness through her art. Her work has appeared on greeting cards, wall art, plush, and over a dozen children’s books.

My Impressions:

Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my very favorite Scripture verses, and I love how the collaborative team of Amy Parker and Vanessa Brantley-Newton have brought God’s Word to life with their children’s book., The Plans I Have for You. Written for children ages 4-8, this colorful book shows children how they fit into God’s plan. As I was reading it, I kept thinking this would be a perfect book for story time at the library or Sunday School. It can certainly be read at home too, especially for a group of children. There’s a lot for the kids to talk about — how God makes us unique for the work He has for us to do and the many jobs that fulfill His purposes. There are also allusions to other Bible verses, such as Galatians 5:22 and Ephesians 2:10, that parents can include in the conversation. The rhymes and illustrations also add to the fun.

I loved this book and think you will to0. Be sure to add it to your wish list!
