Excerpt
The perp in front of them held out his hand. “He’s gonna kill us all, man. Hand it over.”
Izzy sucked in a ragged breath.
“Don’t do it, Iz.” Austin looked at Goose, then Névé, then back to Izzy.
She knew him well enough to know he had a plan. A plan obviously involving his dogs. Could she trust him with her sister’s life?
Trust, Izzy. Trust.
The mantra played again in her mind, and she dipped her chin in acknowledgment.
“Goose, Névé, get ’em!” Austin’s whispered command spoke volumes as he gestured one arm toward the man with the knife and the other toward Padilla.
Goose leaped and seized the man’s arm. The assailant cried out and dropped the knife.
Névé barreled through the snow in a zigzag fashion toward Padilla.
The combined effort was enough to distract the man in black.
Izzy lifted her weapon and squeezed the trigger, providing covering fire for Névé.
She wouldn’t let Padilla shoot the dog she now loved.
