“My uncle thinks he owns me.” Eyes-Like-Sky’s voice shook. A vein bulged on the back of her hand.
Garret’s heart thudded as he fell into the depths of her blue eyes. He stepped toward her. “He doesn’t own you. No one does. I’ll get you and Little Star away from him. I’ll find a way.”
He held out his hand for her knife.
She struck her empty fist against her leg and groaned. But then her gaze locked onto his. Her hand opened. The knife dropped to the ground.
