Excerpt
The anger that had abated like the tide rolling out crashed in again. When Jae had unexpectedly shown up a few months ago at the scene where Tag and his team had been attempting to defuse an extremely complicated series of bombs, he’d tried to stop her from going into the building and getting herself blown up. By way of appreciation, Jae had shot him in the foot and gone in anyway. Which, knowing Jae, was exactly how he should have expected their first encounter after he’d broken her heart to go.
His jaw tightened. “It’s fine.”
His sister cocked her head and gazed at him.
Tag exhaled. “All right. It still hurts. Which I’m glad about.”
Rose frowned. “Glad? Why?”
“Because it helps me remember.”
“To stay angry?”
“To never give up until I have hunted Jae down and gotten the answers I need from her.”
“Is it only answers you need from her?”
That impish smile played around her mouth again, tempered with a compassion that Tag steeled himself against. He couldn’t go soft. Not now. Although he refused to admit it to his sister, he did need to stay angry with Jae. That anger fueled him, gave him a single-minded focus—to find her and, if she was somehow tangled up with Brady or could have done something to help Tala and Rose and hadn’t, make sure she faced justice. Possibly shoot her in the foot.
