Top 10 Tuesday — Adult Summer Reading Fun

22 Jun

Happy Tuesday! This week’s Top 10 Tuesday challenge is Bookish Wishes. This theme could have gone anywhere — unlimited funds to buy books, travel to bookish settings, dinner with favorite characters — yet I went with Adult Summer Reading Programs. As a kid I loved going to the library to turn in my reading chart for prizes and receiving the Scholastic newsletter in the mail. My kids all participated in the Book It program and were thrilled with their personal pan pizzas. I’ve read of other fun summer programs for kids including MLB teams offering free tickets to games just for reading! So why not extend the fun to adults?

Do I really need an incentive to read during the summer? Of course not! But I think having adult programs would add to the fun and appeal to my competitive nature 😉 . If you know of some adult reading programs, please share! Meanwhile, my list follows.

For more bookish wishes, head over to That Artsy Reader Girl. And leave her a comment. It’s her birthday!

Top Summer Reading Programs I Wish Applied to Adults

Barnes And Noble — read 8 books, get one FREE!

Amazon — read 8 books, get a $1 coupon. (They really should up their game here.)

Half Price Books — read for 300 minutes, get $5 Half Price Books Bucks

Bookworm Wednesday at Showcase Cinemas — FREE admission with a book report

Reading with The Rays — read for 24 hours, get two FREE tickets to see the Tampa Bay Rays

Local libraries have all kinds of cool prizes for reading.

I could really go for some free books, discounts, coupons, a movie or even baseball tickets. Besides those incentives, how about a free smoothie or latte, a pedicure, or my favorite, a free day just to read! I may have to come up with my own prizes.

I’d apply to all of those reading programs if they were open to adults! How cool.

I love this idea! My library actually does a summer reading program for adults (in NC), but I don’t participate! Don’t ask why, I really don’t know, I think because recently I am not getting very many books from the library so I feel guilty getting free stuff from them! Happy reading and maybe someday these retailers will wise up and realize adults are more likely to shop at their stores if they only gave them a little incentive too 🙂 Here’s my post for today: https://cindysbookcorner.blogspot.com/2021/06/top-ten-tuesday-bookish-wishes.html

Oooh, yes, I love this idea! There should definitely be more tangible rewards for reading. My library does have an adult summer reading program, but I’ve never actually participated. I guess I should check it out!

    Happy TTT!

My kids read like fiends over the summer because of the wonderful library program at our local library.

I never thought about reading programs for adults. But it would be a lot of fun. I know my library has tried to do various reading programs for adults, but I’m not sure how successful they have been. I know last summer they gave out 3 different prizes, one of which was a bottle of wine from a local vineyard and I think a 6-pack of craft beer from a local brewery.

I would love all those! Except maybe the Rays. 🙂

I know, but I had to include it. I do think it is cool that a MLB team is partnering with schools like this.
