Back in the day when I didn’t schedule the books I read, I participated in a number of reading challenges. It was a good way to get out of my rut, check out new genres and authors, and clean out the TBR universe ๐ . ย A Novel Challenge is a good site to find links to a number of fun challenges. Although I probably won’t participate in any of the ones I am listing ๐ , I thought it would be fun to highlight the ones that piqued my interest. I have only listed 5 of the 2020 challenges posted so far — there are many more. Also be sure to check back; new challenges are continually added.
Today’s Top 10 Tuesday is a Freebie. To find out what other bloggers are talking about, check out That Artsy Reader Girl.

Do you participate in reading challenges?
Which one would you choose?
Great topic for today’s freebie! I only started participating in reading challenges this year when I became more active in the book community but I don’t do them often because I’m really quite terrible at sticking to set TBRs ๐ I wouldn’t mind trying out some more next year though, so I’ll defo check some of these out!
My TTT post
Hope you find some fun challenges!
An ABC challenge always looks fun. I’m challenging myself to read all of the 1001 children’s books and a book from every country of the world.
How fun!
I don’t generally participate in reading challenges, but Mount TBR looks super appealing. I’ve been thinking about it for a few months, getting a feel for how it works through a participating friend, but it really seems like the perfect incentive to dig into books you own — especially if you have a bunch of books you’re only keeping because you haven’t read them yet, and suspect you’ll be fine getting rid of them once you have.
Definitely helps to clean off those shelves.
Yes I do. In 2019 I participated in Cruisin’ Thru the Cozies. I’ve participated in that challenge for a few years now. I also participated in, The Alphabet Soup Challenge.
In 2020 I’m participating in Cruisin’ Thru the Cozies again and I’ve also joined the Classic’s Club. I’m reading 50 classic books in the next five years. Fun! Here is the link to my list of classics I’ll be reading. ๐

Happy Reading!
Thanks so much for the link. Before I got into reviewing a lot of books, I was trying to read more classics too. I also liked the classic mystery challenge I participated in.
A classic mystery challenge would be fun. ๐
I did one several years back. Opened up a whole new list of books ๐ ! Many of the books are out of print, so I used Manybooks to get them free.
I do the Mount TBR one. It’s been a great way to motivate myself to get to those books I have but haven’t read yet. There’s another TBR one where you choose ten books on your TBR list or stack to read for the year, but I am not sure if the man hosting it is doing so again. For years I have participated in the Back to the Classics Challenge, where we choose classics in different categories to read through the year. I wasn’t exposed to many classics and had already made it a point to read them as an adult, so this was a fun way to accomplish that goal. I did the Modern Mrs. Darcy challenge this year but probably won’t again. I like the categories, but the group is too big and impersonal. Plus her taste in books differs from mine so much, I can’t enjoy her recommendations. I’m also doing a Literary Christmas Challenge over the holidays. I should see if there is a challenge for Christian fiction, since I read so much of that anyway. Of course, some books work for multiple challenges–I’d never be able to do more than one if they all had to be different books.
I cross over challenges too. I hope you post on the Literary Christmas Challenge. I’d love to read your picks and what you thought.
I posted what I am planning to read (or at least hope to read) for the Literary Christmas challenge here: https://barbarah.wordpress.com/2019/11/20/literary-christmas-reading-challenge-2019/
I read Catching Christmas — a departure from Blackstock’s normal suspense and Christmas by the Sea — classic Carlson with a great Maine coast setting. Enjoy your reading!
Great choice for the topic! I never really participate in specific reading challenges, just the general Goodreads goal, but I’m thinking about picking one to participate in for 2020. ๐
I do the Goodreads goal too. Hope you find a fun one to participate in!
Well, I ~was~ thinking about finding challenges for 2020, so you made my job a little easier haha.
Here’s my TTT of the week ๐

Yay!!
Oh, what a fun list! Thanks for compiling it.
My TTT.

In 2019 I did the Goodreads Challenge (of course) and the Beat the Backlist Challenge. In 2020 I am planning to do both of those again, and am adding in the Finishing the Series Challenge as well!

Great challenges. There are a number of series I need to finish. That one would take care of my TBR pile too. ๐
Thanks for more reading challenges! I think theyโre so fun!

I always join a few challenges, even though I rarely end up actually completing them. It’s still fun to participate. The cozy challenge is one I’m planning to do in 2020.
Happy TTT!

I’ve been doing one challenge this year that I’ve enjoyed. It’s reading a book set in each of the 50 states. I only have like 4 left to reach my goal.
My TTT.
Thatโs great! Sometimes itโs hard to find books set in certain states.
Yes, I’m down to the most challenging ones… like North Dakota and Delaware. Yikes. I don’t read historical very often so that makes it even harder.
I have put a state name in as a keyword at Christian Book Distributors then filter by book and fiction. I googled for a list of Alaskan books before my cruise. Lots of mysteries popped up. Good luck on N. Dakota and Delaware!
Great choice for this week, especially with the year coming to an end. This year I participated in the Popsugar Challenge which I enjoyed. i did not complete them all, but met my goal.
I need to check out that challenge. Many have mentioned it.
I am definitely going to be participating in some challenges but I haven’t made up my mind which ones yet.
๐
I’m bookmarking this! I’ve only participated in my Goodreads challenge and the Popsugar Challenge, but I love considering other ones to add. I’ve just been scared to try more. ๐

Hope you find a challenge that is perfect for you. And thanks for sharing your TTT!
I do the goodreads goal. Iโm only four behind for the year! I might catch up!
Goodreads has a group called Christian Fiction Devourers. They have lots of different challenges to choose from and they even track them for you! Just name the shelf!
I am a couple behind for the year as well. Less optimistic I will catch up! I need to check the GR group — sounds like fun!
