Happy Friday! It’s another scorcher here in the Sunny South. In my hometown the temperature is expected to hit 100 this weekend! So how am I going to stay cool? As my husband swelters at a football game tomorrow, I will be lounging in my air conditioned home reading. 😉 And I have a great book to read — As The Light Fades by Catherine West. I snagged an advance copy and am about 50% through. Oh, it is so, so good! It releases on Tuesday, so the wait is almost over for copies to be delivered. If you haven’t pre-ordered yet, here is the link.
What about you? How are you staying cool this weekend? And does it involve a book? Share your first line in the comments and then head over to Hoarding Books for more fabulous first lines!
Sometimes we’re placed in the strangest of circumstances for the most important reasons.
After her carefully constructed life crumbles, Liz Carlisle finds herself back on Nantucket, picking up the pieces. With the family estate under renovations, the solitude she craves seems out of reach.
Matthew Stone intends to steer clear of his new tenant. She’s carrying a load of baggage, but as long as she pays the rent, he’ll let her be. He’s got enough to deal with caring for his wayward niece, Mia.
Liz doesn’t have time for teenagers and her track record with men is abysmal, but an unlikely friendship forms between the three.
When her former boyfriend is charged with assault, Liz is called to testify against him. But he knows the darkest secrets of her life—secrets she’d hoped to keep buried forever, and he’s ready to reveal them. Telling the truth is the right thing to do, but it may cost her everything she’s worked so hard for, and all she’s come to love.
Catherine West writes stories of hope and healing from her island home in Bermuda. When she’s not at the computer working on her next story, you can find her taking her Border Collie for long walks or reading books by her favorite authors. She and her husband have two grown children and one beautiful granddaughter. Catherine is the winner of the 2015 Grace Award (Bridge of Faith) and the Romance Writers of America’s Faith, Hope & Love Reader’s Choice Award (The Things We Knew). My first line is from Diamond in the Rough by Jen Turano:
N.Y. City November 1885
Any smidgen of hope that her entrance into N.Y. high society would be deemed a rousing success died the moment Miss Poppy Garrison’s tiara became firmly attached to the sleeve of her dance partner.
Funny right from the start! She was great at CFRR!
Happy Friday!
Today on my blog I am sharing the first line from Sweet Melody by Heidi McCahan: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2019/09/05/first-line-friday-100/. I am just starting chapter seven, so I will share the first couple of lines from there.
“Rhett wiped down the espresso machine one last time then glanced at the large silver clock with chunky black numbers mounted on the white brick wall. His shift had ended a few minutes ago, and the cafe was empty.”
Happy reading! I hope you have an excellent weekend. 🙂💚📚
First Line Friday is a great way to learn about books. Thanks for sharing this new-to-me author!
You’re welcome!
Happy Friday! The book I shared on my blog today is The Whistle Walk by Stephenia H McGee but it’s also my current read so I’ll share the first line from chapter 9 here: “Charles’s cousin slapped him on the shoulder, sending his mug of ale sloshing over the rim and into his dinner.” Happy Reading! 🙂
Have a great weekend!
Thankfully it has finally cooled down here and it is comfy in the mid-70s with no humidity.
The book I shared on my blog today is You Belong With Me by Tari Faris, however the book I’m currently reading is Reunited in the Rockies by Mindy Obenhaus. I’m currently on chapter 12 so I’ll share that first line here. ” Jude could hardly wait to show Kayla the crib designs he’d sketched for her.”
Enjoy reading in the air conditioning this weekend! 🙂
Glad to hear it’s cooler in your neck of the woods. Hopefully, it will move south soon! Enjoy your weekend too!
Happy Friday! My first line is from “Ford” by Susan May Warren:
“If Ford didn’t get his head in the game, they were doomed. People were going to die. Probably him.”
This looks like such a great series. Thanks for sharing!
The first line isn’t all that enticing, but I still really want to read this book.
It is when you realize the context. It’s a great book.
