First Line Friday — Miles From Where We Started

26 Oct

Happy Friday! I am on the road again this weekend, heading out for a football game. Okay, my husband is attending the game. Me? I’ll be home checking the score periodically and reading. LOL! I am taking along Miles from Where We Started by Cynthia Ruchti — a road trip book for my road trip! How about you? What are you reading this weekend. Share your first line in the comments, then head over to Hoarding Books for more fabulous first lines!

These no-longer-newlyweds want out of this road trip—and their marriage. Too bad they can’t find the off ramp.

Weeks away from their one-year wedding anniversary, Mallory and Connor Duncan can’t even agree on how to end their marriage. But when a last-minute crisis lands them on a three-thousand-mile road trip together, Mallory wonders if their story may not be over after all.

The trip begins to unravel before the key is even in the ignition. When an at-risk, trouble-seeking eleven-year-old is unexpectedly thrown into their travel plans, close quarters get even tighter. Soon, the couple believes this whole experience will spell disaster.

Their first year of marriage hasn’t been the arm-in-arm togetherness Mallory and Connor expected. But is it possible they will find a new beginning at the end of the road?

Cynthia Ruchti tells stories hemmed in hope through award-winning novels, novellas, devotionals, nonfiction, and through speaking events for women and writers. She makes potato corn chowder for her husband of 44 years and loves on her three kids and five grandchildren. Cynthia recently retired from 33 years of writing and producing a daily radio broadcast called THE HEARTBEAT OF THE HOME, is past president of the 2,700-member American Christian Fiction Writers, and now serves as ACFW’s Professional Relations Liaison, all while working on more book projects in addition to the fifteen already on the shelves. Her books have been honored with two Selah Awards, three Christian Retailing’s BEST Awards, and awards from CAN Golden Scrolls and AWSA Golden Scrolls, as well as finalist and top honors in awards programs such as ACFW’s Carol Awards, ForeWord Book Reviews Book of the Year, RT Reviews Book of the Year, Family Fiction’s Book of the Year, Cascade Awards Book of the Year, Inspirational Readers’ Choice, and the Christy Awards, among others. You can connect with her at, at, at, or in the kitchen, brewing herself another cup of tea.

I just finished this one yesterday!! My first Cynthia Ruchti book but it won’t be my last!

I’m currently reading A Picture Perfect Christmas by Candee Fick: “Liz Foster collapsed against the couch cushions and buried her hot face in a decorative pillow.”

    Happy Friday!

    Happy Friday!

Today on my blog I’m sharing the first lines from All Things New by June Foster. I’m at the 25% mark, so I’ll just share a couple lines from there:

“Though Jett wanted to see how the labor progressed, the medical conditions had change. Jillian had to bring the baby into the world now.”

    Kind of intense! 😮

Hope you have a great weekend filled with excellent reading time.

    Happy Friday!

My first lines come from A Twist of Faith by Pepper Basham……

PHD WAS NOT SUPPOSED to smell like this. Adelina Roseland dropped a box of research articles onto the floor and stifled a deep breath as the strong aroma of naturally fertilized farmland wafted in from the open window.

Have an awesome weekend and happy reading!!😊💕🎃

    Happy Friday!
This week on my blog I shared A Light on the Hill by Connilyn Cossette but I’m currently reading Tell Her No Lies by Kelly Irvin so I’ll share the first line from the current chapter (8) that I’m on: “Upstanding citizens of the community did not lead double lives.” It’s not an easy book to put down! Hope you have a great weekend with plenty of quality reading time!

Happy Friday! I’m sharing from A Season of Grace by Lauraine Snelling on my blog. Here’s the first line from a book I treated myself to this week, His Promise by Shelley Shepard Gray:

“It’s snowing again,” Grace King said to Snooze. “If it keeps up, we’re gonna have a white Christmas. Won’t that be something?”
