Happy Friday! I am happy to be sharing the first line from Lisa McKay‘s re-released novel, My Hands Came Away Red. I am eager to read this book in the coming weeks. The opening line of the Prologue sets the stage for a riveting read.
Please share the first line of the book nearest you and then head over to Hoarding Books for more fabulous first lines!
Right up until the day they burned the church, I thought I understood things. You know… God, people, myself. Life. Then, suddenly, I understood nothing except that we had to run. And that we might never make it home.
When eighteen-year-old Cori signed up for a mission trip to Indonesia she was mostly thinking about escaping her complicated love life, making new friends, and having fun on the beach.
She never expected a civil war to flare up on the nearby island of Ambon.
She never expected violence to find them.
And she never expected that seven teenagers would be forced to flee into the hazardous refuge of the mountains on their own.
Now, haunted by blood and fire, Cori and her teammates must rely on each other to survive.
Praised by Publishers Weekly as “fast-paced,” “thought-provoking,” and one of the “best novels of the year,” My Hands Came Away Red will take you deep into the jungle with Cori as she desperately searches for answers and a safe way home.

“Before we were the Monsters of Brickhouse Lane – before everyone from Connecticut to California knew us by that tagline, and blogs ran pictures of our faces, and searching our names led to sites that crashed from all the names led to sites that crashed from all the traffic – we were just girls, and there were only two of us.”
Hope you enjoy the weekend! Happy reading! ❤️📚 😀
That’s very intriguing! Thanks for sharing.
Happy Friday! My first line is from A Time to Love by Marion Ueckermann:
“You can do this. You’ve done it a thousand times before.”
Good lines. Have a wonderful weekend.
This looks really good. I’ll have to wait till read our til next year though. My daughter is going on a mission trip to Nepal in January. This might not be a good book for me right now. ☺
I hear ya! But Nepal, wow! I would love to go there. I have two friends that went last year on a mission trip.
Happy Friday! I’m sharing about “This Is The Day” by Tim Tebow over on my blog today. I’m currently reading “Ours for a Season” by Kim Vogel Sawyer so I’ll be sharing my first line from there.

Marty followed her husband to the front door, keeping enough distance between them to prevent bumping her knee against the bulky suitcase that hung from his hand.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Happy reading!
Wow, that could go just about anywhere. Husband leaving on a business trip . . . or for good?
Mine for this week is from Shattered Memories from Debbie Lynn Costello
It is about a great earthquake in Charleston, South Carolina , August 30, 1886.
“Why can’t you have him arrested and demand our money back?” Olivia Macqueen frowned at her brother. It seemed a simple enough solution. She shuddered at the thought of once being engaged to the detestable man they now discussed.
Good lines, but your description — earthquake in Charleston — really makes me want to read it.
Today on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Roseanna M. White’s An Hour Unspent. Here I’ll share with you the first line from Kristi Ann Hunter’s novella A Legacy of Love from The Christmas Heirloom Collection.
“From a purely rational standpoint, Sarah Gooding should have been ecstatic with her present position.”
Have a wonderful weekend!
That certainly makes me want to read more.
Ooo, this book sounds intriguing. 🙂 My first line is from Love Unexpected by Jody Hedlund (her 2014 release).
“The blast of a gunshot awoke Emma Chambers.”
Have a great weekend!
That’s a great start to a book!
Happy Friday!
My first lines come from Killer Classics by Kym Roberts……
“Sugar did it.” Sugar’s mouth dropped open, and her eyes nearly popped out of her head at Reba Sue’s accusation. “Sugar didn’t kill anyone,” Leila argued. “The woman traps scorpions at the bar and releases them outside.” Leila shuddered, her round body jiggling from head to toe. “Stupid critters belong under a boot heel.”
Have an awesome weekend and happy reading!💕📚💕
Sounds like a fun book.
That cover is stunning!
Happy Friday!
Today on my blog, I am sharing the first line from Lynn Austin’s novel Legacy of Mercy. I just started the book today and I am only on chapter two, so I will share the first line from there.
“I don’t know how to answer my son Jakob.”
Makes me want to read on! 😊
Hope you have an excellent day, and a relaxing weekend filled with great reading!
Hope you have a great weekend too!
Happy Friday! I’m sharing from an upcoming read, The Love Letter by Rachel Hauck, over on my blog today. Here are the first lines from the prologue, set during the American Revolution:
“He must finish. He must. Stumbling, he fell to the damp earth of the maple swamp with the click-slap of musket fire ringing through the cold dew, his breath billowing.”
That is such an outstanding book! Enjoy it!
Happy Friday! On my blog, I’m featuring the book I just finished reading, “The Awakening” by Tamara Leigh. Here I will share the first line from the book I’m currently reading, “The Unwanted Suitor” by Michelle Pennington. There is a prologue, but I’ll share the first line from Chapter 1. “Cornelia Greystone glanced at the ormolu clock that graced the wall over her dressing table and her whole body tensed with urgency.” Have a wonderful weekend!
Makes me want to read more! Hope you have a great weekend too!
I’m featuring lines from Susan Stoker’s Justice for Hope on my blog today. Hope you can stop by!
Here, I am featuring lines from Dare to Love Again by Maddie Taylor. Here is the first line of chapter 13.
“Esme went to work the next day, determined to keep her mind focused on the million and one things she had to do rather than letting more sexy Finn daydreams distract her.”
Happy Reading!
