Welcome to First Line Fridays hosted by Hoarding Books! I am so excited to join in on the fun! To participate all you have to do is grab the closest book handy, open it to the first page, and share the first line in the comments, then head over to Hoarding Books to find other participating blogs (look for the linky in their post). Easy peasy!
I am featuring a contemporary Christmas romance for my first foray into FLF — The Gift of Christmas Past by Cindy and Erin Woodsmall.
To sweeten the experience I am giving away a copy of The Gift of Christmas Past and a copy of Cindy’s final book in the Amish of Summer Grove series, Gathering The Threads! Your first line comment will enter you in the giveaway. The winner will be notified next Thursday (10/19/17).
Sounds interesting.
Sounds like a heart-tugging opening!
I’m featuring the SECOND line from Crystal Walton’s ‘Just Maybe’ on my blog this week (Carrie has the first line on Reading is my Superpower). But here, I’m going to share the first line from my current read: a speculative novel called ‘Day Moon’ by Brett Armstrong. Here’s the first line:
“The drizzle tapped on the coffin with an increasing intensity.”
I’m reading Day Moon now too. Thought-provoking YA.
Here is my first line from The Welcome Home Diner by Peggy Lampman
If you’re the last person to leave Detroit, don’t forget to turn off the lights.
Have a great weekend!!
Funny!
Oh, that first line…. Breaks my heart! I worked with kids in the foster care system for several years. Often times it was their Biological Parents that caused the most trauma. But occasionally there would be the bad foster parent. This sounds like a really good book!
The first line on my blog this week is from Toni Shiloh’s latest book ‘Returning Home’. I’ll share with you here a book that I just started reading last night.
June 1811
A London lady never sallied forth unchaperoned. Least of all to a place with the reputation of Vauxhall Gardens. — First Comes Marriage by Amanda Barratt
The Regency Brides Collection
Sounds good. Love Regency!
The first line of Christmas at Carnton by Tamera Alexander is “‘Very nice stitching, Mrs. Prescott.'” That comes right before she gets laid off from her job.
Ha! Great opening!
This sounds interesting.
I’m featuring Lu. by Beth Troy on my blog today, but here I shall share the book I’m currently reading.
“They rode in silence, the murmur of Alex’s expensive late-model white SUV lulling Astrid into drowsiness.”
-Colors of Christmas by Olivia Newport
Happy Weekend!
I’m reading that one next.
Sweet. Which one? Lu or Colors of Christmas?
Colors of Christmas
Awesome! I’m almost finished with the first novella and it’s super cute! 🙂
Of the hundreds of cookbooks in Kitty’s collection, an extraordinary number were dedicated to cooking under difficult circumstances.
The Bookshop on Rosemary Lane by Ellen Berry
“Cooking under difficult circumstances” — hmmm. Sounds tricky! 😉
“He was going to hit that truck.”
From Sea Rose Lane by Irene Hannon
Great book!
“Marcus Gavius Apicius purchased me on a day hot enough to fry sausage on the market stones.” From: Feast of Sorrow A Novel of Ancient Rome by Crystal King.
I love that time period!
It’s fun to see the Christmas books start popping up!
I shared the first line of April McGowan’s Hold the Light today.
Here’s the first line of the book I just finished reading:
“How can I help?”
from The Austen Escape by Katherine Reay
I am really behind in reading Reay’s books. I hear such great things about them.
Sounds interesting. The book I’m featuring on my blog is Perfectly Matched by Maggie Brendan. However, the book I will share here is Fire and Ice by Mary Connealy. “The bullet spit dirt up in Gage Coulter’s eyes, and he didn’t even flinch.”
She’s a fun author!
This one is new to me. Thanks for sharing it! 🙂 Love First Line Fridays!
Just finished The Captivating Lady Charlotte by guess who? Carolyn Miller! Number two in this Regency series!
The room glimmered with a thousand points of sparkling light, the bright glow from the enormous crystals-dropped chandelier glinting off heavily beaded gowns, ornate mirrors, and the desperation shining in dozens of pairs of eyes.
Love a Regency!
That’s a heart wrenching first line! Happy Friday!

Mike Dolan was snoring when the telephone rang. Fly Away by Lynn Austin
Thanks for sharing! Snoring — ha!
Welcome to FLFs!!!! Happy Friday! I shared the first line from Amy Matayo’s new Christmas novella, Christmas at Gate 18, over on my blog today, so I’ll share a different first line of a fav book here:
“Piccolo. The restaurant matched its name-a tiny and delicate white stucco building with a short, neat brick wall leading from its front door to the parking lot.” – A Portrait of Emily Price by Katherine Reay
Another line from a Reay novel — I have to get busy with those. I read Dear Mr. Knightley — it was great!
Sorry that I didn’t get this posted on Friday. I want to share the first line from the first chapter instead of from the prologue: (This is a REALLY fun book to read!)
A New Shade of Summer by Nicole Deese:
“I jiggled the locked doorknob again and wished, not for the first time, that it was legal to use tranquilizer darts on adolescent boys.”
haha!
I’m so excited to see Christmas books this week! Happy Monday!
I love Christmas books too. I’m reading another right now — review to come next week.
