My bookshelves have gotten out of control. When perusing them for a topic for this week’s Top 10 Tuesday, I just had to get them organized. I cleaned them out, purging 2 whole books! And I shuffled them around, gaining a few inches of space. The sad thing is that the books on my shelves, by and large, have not been read. I am dedicated to sharing my books with others, and except for a few books that I may re-read or are signed by the author, I am fairly successful at moving books out of the house. Unfortunately (I really mean fortunately 😉 ) books have a way of finding a home with me. They arrive from Amazon, authors, and publishers. Sometimes they come from local bookstores. Some are books in a series I have started and not finished. Some are books I thought my book club would love. Some I just could not resist the cover, or the book blurb, or the endorsement. Sigh. So I have shelves and shelves of books whispering, clamoring, and shouting pick me! This week I thought I would feature randomly selected books that reside with me and are worthy of my quality time. I just need to get reading!
Now my Kindle looks like  . . . . whoo boy!
(Four of my bookcases. Yes I have more.)

My husband bemoans my myriad books that are mainly stored in my office and bedroom. Last night I went through them and placed the ones that won’t fit on my bookshelves into plastic tubs that I’ve labeled with the letters of the authors’ last names. Fortunately, that will please my husband. Unfortunately when they are tucked away, I’m less likely to see them and thus select them in the order I had planned to read them.
I, too, share my books with friends, donate them to the local public library, send them to people on paperbackswap.com, or sell them on Amazon. However, they enter my house faster than I can read them and send them on. Your reviews help me decide which books to buy–used when there’s savings possible.
Glad to be of service to your book
obsessionhabithobby! And thanks so much for your comments. You are always so encouraging!Though I don’t have as many book shelves as you( and not as pretty) I,too, have way too many to read. However, mine are mostly what I have won on blogs and review sites (probably 100 in the last year) yes, the Lord has blessed! ! A few I’ve gotten at library or garage sales and another few were gifts. I just have to buckle down and read them!
Good for you one the giveaway books! I used to win a few every year, but I have stopped entering contests. With all the review books I get, I have a gracious plenty! Check back next week, I have a giveaway starting next Tuesday!
You sound a lot like me and my shelves! I really don’t keep many books after I read them, except for a very few favorite authors… yet my shelves are overflowing.
My husband and I just went on a long weekend vacation and I picked a few random books off my shelf to take along. One of them that I read was published in 2011 and has been on my shelf almost that long!
I was surprised at how old the random books I chose are. It’s kind of sad. If I stop buying books and requesting review books and coerce my book clubs to read the books I already own, I may be able to get them all read. But that’s probably not going to happen! 😉
