Last Days of Freedom Giveaway Hop

16 Aug

I Am A Reader, Not A Writer and The Elliott Review are hosting the Last Days of Freedom Giveaway Hop! Over 150 bloggers are giving away books and bookish things to commemorate the final days of summer. To check out the other blogs, click HERE.  The hop runs through August 22.

To celebrate, I am offering 2 books with the theme of freedom.  Please let me know which book you would like by leaving me a comment.  You can also enter to win both. The winner will be picked no later than August 24. Good Luck!

Book #1  — The Messenger by Siri Mitchell

Hannah Sunderland felt content in her embrace of the Quaker faith until her twin brother ran off and joined the army and ended up captured and in jail. Suddenly Hannah’s world turns on end. She longs to bring her brother some measure of comfort in the squalid, frigid prison where he remains. But the Quakers believe they are not to take sides, not to take up arms. Can she sit by and do nothing while he suffers?

Jeremiah Jones has an enormous task before him. Responsibility for a spy ring is now his, and he desperately needs access to the men in prison, whom they are seeking to free. A possible solution is to garner a pass for Hannah. But while she is fine to the eye, she holds only disdain for him–and agreeing would mean disobeying those she loves and abandoning a bedrock of her faith.

Book #2 — Fearless by Eric Blehm

Growing up, Adam Brown started his life like many American boys. He loved taking risks, pursuing adventures, and playing football for his high school team. But when he died on March 17, 2010 in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan, he had become a man who served his country with excellence as an elite warrior and leader. Fearless by Eric Blehm is a tribute to the life and legacy of Navy SEAL Team SIX Operator Adam Brown.

As a young man, Adam always tried to honor his family, but there was a time when it seemed that his life might take a downward turn. Lacking purpose after high school, Adam fell in with the wrong crowd and became addicted to drugs, landing himself in jail. Taking the wake-up call to turn his life around, Adam began to search for meaning. He found it in giving his life to Jesus Christ, finding the love of his life, Kelly, and in the dream to become a Navy SEAL.

Adam’s determination and hard work propelled him to reach higher and higher until his dream of becoming a Navy Seal was realized. Even after reaching his goal, Adam was always the first to volunteer for the most dangerous assignments. His final act of bravery led to the ultimate sacrifice, and the devoted family man and soldier was killed in action. Fearless is an unforgettable tale of a true American hero–a man of courage and daring who gave his all in service to his country.

I would love to read The Messenger. and my husband would like to read Fearless. We end each day reading quietly right before bedtime until we’re sleepy, and both my husband and I have really enjoyed this relaxing hobby.

My husband and I have been doing more of that lately, especially now that the nest is conspicuously empty and quiet!
