Jennifer at Crazy for Books is at it again with her weekly meme, The Book Blogger Hop! Every week bloggers across the world answer those burning book questions.
This week’s question:
What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?
I generally keep reading a book no matter what. There are a few exceptions: really offensive language and really offensive depictions, or just plain bad writing. I won’t stop reading for one expletive or one act of violence, but if the language or action gets to me, I will put it down and often discard it! And really bad writing is rare. But since I rarely pick books that would be like this (there are so many books from which to choose), I almost always finish a book.

I’m the complete opposite. The book has to be pretty darn good for me to keep reading!
I’m hopping by to tell you that I’ve got a wonderful giveaway going on at my blog, Readerbuzz. It’s international! During the Readerbuzz July Giveaway I’ll be giving away a $25 Amazon gift card! I’d love to have you stop in and throw your name in the hat to win!

These book blogger hop questions just get better and better. This one looks easy but I think it’s a trick question. We all know it’s the same answer – the writing – but we all have different perspectives of what good writing is.
Hop on over to my blog at http://www.howardsherman.net and read my three-prong answer as I explain why I’ll decide to pick up a book or put it down in under sixty seconds.
Happy July 4th Weekend!

Hopping through. I don’t like really offensive language either. I don’t mind some swear words, but I don’t like books where they’re just thrown in there to be edgy.
