My youngest child Thomas is the only one of my three that loves to read fantasy. When he told me he wanted to read something about King Arthur, I knew just what to give him. My friend, Fran, introduced me to Stephen Lawhead and his Pendragon Cycle a few years after its initial publication. I was soon hooked! From the beginning of the series, Thomas was hooked too.
Both of us liked the first book in the series, Taliesen, best. Here is a brief synopsis: Atlantis is lost. From the holocaust comes Charis, Lady of the Lake, whose love for the Druid prince Taliesin bridges and unites two worlds. The story of a lost continent, the Fair Folk of Britain, and Britain’s greatest bard. It is interesting that Thomas, wanting to read about the heroics of King Arthur, was drawn to a bard’s story. I couldn’t buy the books fast enough for Thomas. When the local bookstore didn’t have one of the books in the series in stock, Thomas waited very impatiently for the postman to deliver. Although Peter Pan is his favorite all time book, he was quick to list The Pendragon Cycle as his favorite teen read. Following The Pendragon Cycle, Thomas picked up Hood and its sequels.
I haven’t told him yet that Lawhead has a new book due out shortly. But if the others by Lawhead are any indication, Thomas is going to love The Skin Map as well.
The RBC Library has Hood, Scarlet and Tuck, all by Lawhead, available. Check them out.
Tomorrow, favorites in the RBC Library.

I’m glad to see we chose the same book to rave about. What a series!
