Fear of being abandoned keeps nineteen-year-old Harmony Dust trapped in an abusive and cruel relationship. She thinks she has hit bottom – tens of thousands of dollars in debt, struggling to get by, and so controlled by her boyfriend that she doesn’t protest when he begins openly sleeping around. Things can’t get worse . . . until someone tells her how much money she can make as an exotic dancer. For the next three years, Harmony lives a double life as Monique, a dancer in a fully-nude strip club.
Scars and Stilettos is Harmony’s stark, honest, and ultimately hopeful story of how God found her in that dark, noisy place and led her out. She has since married, completed an MA in social welfare, and now leads Treasures, an organization helping women in the sex trade discover their true worth.
Harmony Dust now runs Treasures, a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles that helps women in the sex industry to make healthy life choices. Find out more at www.scarsandstilettos.com.

My Impressions:
Harmony Dust’s gripping autobiography, Scars and Stilettos, is a testimony to the redemptive power of God through His son, Jesus Christ. The message in Paul’s letter second letter to the Corinthians, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!, comes through loud and clear in this book. Harmony grew up used and abused, always looking for love and confusing it with sex. Her heart yearned for someone to tell her she was good enough. Yet, time after time and relationship after relationship, Harmony found herself giving more and more of herself away and receiving nothing in return. Until she found the one that loved her not for her money or body, but for herself.
One of the strengths of Scars and Stilettos is its honesty. Harmony doesn’t make excuses for the choices she made. Yes, she details the abuse she suffered, but never uses that as a justification for her actions. She takes full responsibility for her life as a stripper and she gives all the credit to God for the power to change. This book will make you reexamine your views of just who God loves and wants to make His children. The Jesus that ate with publicans and prostitutes is the Jesus portrayed in this book.
